DrBurns ReLeaf New Cannabis-infused Product Line
Scottsdale, Arizona. Medical marijuana patients often encounter a gap between what they are prescribed at their certification and availability of the recommended medications when they visit the dispensary. With the recent introduction of a new physician-formulated line of cannabis-infused products, Dr. Elaine Burns, Medical Director of Southwest Medical Marijuana Evaluation Center, located in Scottsdale at 8010 E. McDowell Road, Suite 105, has addressed that gap. The products will soon be available as Drburns ReLeaf at many legally licensed Arizona dispensaries. This new product line bridges the gap between what the physician wants for their patient and what is actually available.
Dr. Burns developed Drburns ReLeaf to ensure patients have access to consistently high quality therapeutic products. Since there is no stipulation in the medical marijuana act requiring dispensaries to test medications for therapeutic safety and effectiveness, she has been working in conjunction with several dispensaries to create physician-formulated products that are safe, tested and locally produced rather than sourced out of state. Dr. Burns drew on over six years of significant clinical experience with medical marijuana patients to develop the Drburns ReLeaf products. They are based on scientific studies, not just folklore, grandma’s remedies or old wives’ tales. They raise the bar of quality control for the entire industry.
Just as allopathic physicians are educated in the nuances of various pharmaceuticals, medical marijuana evaluation physicians make it a point to understand the various types of medication available and which ones are most appropriate to treat specific complaints. But stock at dispensaries is constantly changing, often making it difficult for patients to get the medication their doctor has prescribed.
THC levels which cause the “high” traditionally associated with cannabis are one significant concern. “Medical marijuana patients do not want to get high. They just want to get better and feel better. And better does not necessarily mean high,” commented Dr. Burns. “Therapy patients, for example, do not need medication that is strong in THC and yet, many of the products they find will have high THC levels.” In keeping with Dr. Burns’ dedication to educating patients and recommending the most appropriate medication for a patient’s condition, the new product line addresses that issue.

The transition from recreational pot to medical marijuana has created a whole new world. Originally a spillover from recreational marijuana, the first medical marijuana products were developed based on experience with recreational cannabis. They were, however, often driven by high THC levels and were not necessarily therapeutic. But therapeutic medications are the whole point of medical marijuana. As scientific evidence and anecdotal experience with the medical aspects of marijuana have mounted, marijuana’s high-producing properties have increasingly lost ground to its therapeutic value.
