The primary goal of THE EVALUATION CENTER is to provide the certification necessary for qualified people to obtain medical marijuana under the State of Arizona medical marijuana laws and to achieve the quality of life desired.
During the certification process, your physician will discuss with you the benefits (along with the risks) of choosing medical marijuana as an alternative therapeutic treatment thus allowing you to make a well informed decision. In addition, your physician may recommend other pertinent treatments such as pain management and / or nutritional counseling.
Our evaluation center is staffed with experienced and compassionate doctors that are well trained in the areas of alternative health treatment options and other support personnel who will assist you throughout the entire certification process. In addition, your physician will provide you with follow up care for your qualifying condition.
Dr. Elaine Burns, Medical Director
Dr. Burns is an Arizona-licensed and board-certified Naturopathic Medical Doctor (NMD). In addition to her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, she also obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Pre-med from the University of Delaware and, a Master’s degree in Business from the University of Phoenix.
Dr. Burns is passionate about her profession and is committed to helping others achieve wellness and vitality in their lives. Her areas of interest include anti-aging and, the medical uses of Cannabis. She has worked at continuing her education by obtaining post-graduate training in these specific areas.
Dr. Burns is the founder and medical director of the Southwest Medical Marijuana Evaluation and Cannabis Pain Management Centers. In addition, Dr. Burns is the first in the state of Arizona to pass the American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine's (AACM) physician certification test qualifying her as an expert in the clinical applications of cannabis medicine. The AACM provides the GOLD standard for medical cannabis recommendations and approval.
Dr. Burns is a member of the Arizona Naturopathic Medical Association (AzNMA), the Naturopathic Board of Aesthetic Medicine (NpBAM) , the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and, American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine.
Dr. Schuyler McHenry
Dr. Schuyler McHenry graduated from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in winter 2005/2006. He performed his residency in Family Practice at Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center. Dr. McHenry has extensive experience in alternative pain management, addictionology, and integrative medicine for metabolic disease. In addition, he has been working with patients in the medical marijuana community since 2011.
Dr. Sandra Olic, NMD
Dr. Sandra Olic is a licensed naturopathic physician and health educator. She has been a long time advocate for the medical use of cannabis and has worked with medical marijuana patients since Arizona first legalized medical marijuana in 2011. Dr. Olic also has extensive training and experience in integrative anti-aging treatments including bio-identical hormone replacement therapy and aesthetic medicine.
In addition to taking care of patients, Dr Olic has studied mind body therapies including yoga and meditation for over 20 years and has been teaching for over a decade. A native New Yorker, Dr. Olic originally moved to Phoenix to complete her naturopathic medical degree at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine.
Dr. Miriam Peachy
Dr. Peachy is a graduate of Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. She completed her undergraduate degree in Information Technology with the University of Maryland University College. She has lived in four countries and has been exposed to many different cultures and traditions. Her interests include Native American spirituality and shamanism, meditation, indigenous medicine, plants and gardening, hiking, swimming, and travel.
Dr. Toni (Karen) Vaughan
Dr. Toni Vaughan has worked in the medical field since 1988. Prior to becoming a Naturopathic Physician, she worked as a Respiratory Therapist in a variety of hospital settings, including intensive care, emergency room, pediatrics and long term care.
Dr. Vaughan received her B.S. in Biology from the University of South Florida and her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences in Tempe, Arizona.
Dr. Vaughan’s background in hospital care, combined with her training and experience in Integrative Medicine provide the foundation for her comprehensive treatment approach.
In her spare time, Dr. Vaughan is a semi-professional photographer. Her photography encompasses the history and nature of Arizona. Her art has been featured on the Arizona Highways website and in Phoenix Magazine. Her award-winning Tempe Town Lake photo currently adorns the Washington DC office of US Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema.
